Domaine Marchand Frères,
Gevrey Chambertin
The Marchand Frères domaine takes its name, unsurprisingly, from a pair of industrious brothers. The small but perfectly formed domain is tucked away in the backwaters of the magnificent Gevrey Chambertin and is a reminder of the way that great burgundy used to be made. They have vines in a number of the most prestigious vineyards and appellations in the area, including 1er Cru Gevrey Chambertin, Chambolle Musigny and Morey St Dennis. The brothers have established a reputation for consistently well-crafted and priced wines, which in our view is a reputation thoroughly deserved.
Domaine Coste-Caumartin
This exquisite domain has been in the Sordet family since pre Revolution days, with the Domaine building and the cellars dating back to the 17th century. From first appearances, little seems to have changed. But behind the old stable door lies a collection of gleaming vinification tanks, showing that Jerome Sordet, the current owner and winemaker, is not afraid of the new winemaking world.
The Domaine Coste-Caumartin wines, from appellations such as Pommard, Beaune and Volnay, are both powerful and elegant, reflecting the unique terroir that this prestigious and historic part of Burgundy is so proud of.
Domaine Dubois, Nuits St Georges
Domain Dubois is an unassuming domaine just off the road to Nuits St George. It is run by Raphael & Beatrice, a brother and sister team who are the grower and winemaker respectively. They are both talented enologists, having completed the course at The Lycée Viticole in Beaune. Béatrice runs the cellar and loves wine and wine making so much that she also holidays making wine in the southern hemisphere.
The vines of Domaine Dubois are spread over 55 acres throughout the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits. The wines produced by this dynamic brother and sister duo are juicy, characterful and approachable with long, soft fruit flavours.
Domaine Antonin Guyon
This smart domain has all the hallmarks of quality, starting with the imposing Château to the immaculately kept cellars boasting row after row of new oak. Domaine Guyon covers a range of exceptional appellations, mainly spread over premiers crus and grands crus, from Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny through to Pernand-Vergelesses, Aloxe-Corton and up to Savigny
Dominique Guyon is the latest member of the Guyon family to manage this prestigious domaine, his sole aim being to express the quality of the terroir through his wines. Helping him as chief winemaker is the talented Vincent Nicot, and their faithful, time-consuming work results in some fantastic wines that are great ambassadors for the Burgundy region
Domaine Maillard
Pascale and Alain Maillard are brothers and represent the tenth generation of Maillards to work this domaine, situated in Chorey-les-Beaune in the heart of Burgundy. The domaine started out life in 1766 with just a few vines but today comprises 17 hectares spread over 7 communes, producing high quality Beaune wines. The Maillards are firm believers in traditional vinification techniques, paying particular attention to the origin of the wood in which they age their wines, the majority of which comes from the regions of Vosges and Allier. They craft their wines with great care and attention to detail and the result is distinctive, elegant wines displaying satisfying complexity.
Domaine René Monnier, Meursault
This venerable domaine was first established in 1723 and has remained in the same family since then, the current owners being the tenth generation. Chief winemaker Jean Louis Bouillot is a delightfully cheerful Burgundian who is truly passionate about his winemaking.
Modern vinification equipment, the use of new barrels and high quality fruit from carefully tended vines result in rich, full, classic Burgundy. Domaine Monnier also counts amongs its many appellations the relatively new 'Maranges Clos de la Fussière'.
